Tillinghast's mythical country club, Cobble Valley, "nestling among the hills of Everywere," is the setting for many of his short stories which were published in Cobble Valley Golf Yarns and Other Sketches. The Grouch is another story of Cobble Valley CC and was published in Golf Illustrated in December 1915 and later republished in Tillinghast's second book, The Mutt, which was published in 1925.
