In the early 1920's the Baltimore Country Club (BCC) decided to build new golfing grounds some four or five miles from its original club in Roland Park.
Roland Park Clubhouse BCC had acquired a tract of land belonging to Mr. Stuart Oliver that had long been known as Five Farms. In February of1924, the club retained Tillinghastto plan and design two 18 holes golf courses at Five Farms. Only one of those courses, the Five Farms East was constructed under Tilly's watchful eye. Not long ago, the correspondence file between Tillinghast and the Club was rediscovered in a sealed closet space in the Roland Park clubhouse, which had been reopened during some construction work. These letters are reproduced in these pages. They provide a unique insight into Tilly's design practice and the construction means and methods of the time. ( categories: BCC Five Farms Letters )
