Throughout his design career, Tillinghast provided personal course examinations and detailed reports on a fee basis. Often his examinations would provide an entrée for specific golf course design services and construction oversight work.
In the mid 1930’s, Tillinghast was retained by the PGA of America to provide his personal examination and report services free of charge to golf clubs and courses, which employed a member professional of the PGA of America. Over a two-year period, Tillinghast traveled across the United States and examined hundreds of golf courses.
Listed below is the current known listing of clients for which Tillinghast provided his examination services on a fee basis. This listing was compiled from a search of golf literature and is by no means complete. This list also does not include the courses he examined for the PGA of America. A chronological listing of the courses examined for the PGA of America are found on another page of this web site by clicking here.
The listing below is divided in two columns. The first lists clubs or courses that he examined. The second lists locations of sites he examined for new golf course projects. We do not know if any golf course design recommendations made by Tillinghast in these examinations were ever completed. We do however look forward to finding additional information to bring to light the scope of this work.
